RENDEZ-VOUS

The theme for the show Rendez-vous is a dark encounter between a Matador and Death. The French stage director Jean-Pierre Aviotte dealt with the exclusive event of a south-French corrida, the meticulous preparation of the matador and the bullfight itself. It resulted in a fascinating scenic patchwork of filmic, musical, choreographic and acrobatic extravaganza.

We say that right before a man dies, he sees all his life pass in front of his eyes. The authors of the staging chose a torero, fighting against a bull in an arena, who, as he is dying, sees the circle of life, of birth and death, and takes even a look behind the curtain of the uncrossable “after”. Dance and motion are the dominant elements in Rendez-vous, all the more since the topic of a corrida is by itself extremely attractive for its dancing interpretation. The play also features elements of physical theater and acrobatics.

“Rendez-vous is based on motion, dancing, video images and music, and its strength is clearly identifiable in these components. The audience is drawn into the dynamic performance on stage and drifts with its tide. The dancing element is the most important in the show, the others complete it, extend it and fulfill its content.” (Hudební rozhledy)
