The concert for 8 dancers and orchestra is a probe into the New Stage building and the inner world of individual dancers, with the orchestra present on the stage, while the time is counted by 100 metronomes and one minute may seem like an eternity…
The initial impulse for the origination of the joint project of the BERG Orchestra, Dekka Dancers, the National Theatre Ballet and the New Stage bearing the title timINg were György Ligeti’s Poème symphonique for 100 metronomes and Ramifications, Aaron Copland’s Concerto for Clarinet and Orchestra and Louis Andriessen’s Dances.
“The project’s resultant form will straddle the border between concert and theatre. The title itself, ‘timINg’, evokes a play with time and timing. The question arises of at what speed does human time flow? Connecting the space of the New Stage and the inner space of individual dancers has resulted in the birth of a journey – wandering through a time-space, whereby the New Stage appears as a labyrinth in which the Human loses his way,” says the dramaturge Lukáš Trpišovský.
“Thus images originate, picaresque stories that lead us as far as our own inner depths, to the sphere of sub-consciousness, where reality appears as a dreamy image in the reflection of a mirror. The journey into the labyrinth is both irreversible and unforeseeable. What can exist independently of time and space?” explains the project’s stage director, Petra Tejnorová.
A unique set of one hundred metronomes will be compiled for this project. Through a public collection, these will be lent by the same number of proud patrons, including celebrities.
