The latest play by Petr Zelenka, one of the most successful Czech dramatists. A tale of a battle with a multinational pharmaceutical corporation, of recovery of long-lost friendship and many forms of love. The play takes as its theme the relationship of the artist to reality, or, more precisely, media reality. What are the limits of that which one can accept and that which is no longer acceptable? What should be revered more: moral principles or friendship? more

LEGENDS OF MAGIC PRAGUE
420PEOPLE / National Theatre Drama
based on poem by Karel Hynek Mácha
How well do we know K. H. Mácha's legendary poem May? It seems like all of us Czechs are able to recall its first lines. Is that really all? And if so, is that enough? Are we aware of its content, details, its atmosphere and universal character? The company 420PEOPLE present a new piece that goes far beyond their experience in the field of contemporary dance. Václav Kuneš, the company's choreographer, got together with the actor, and in this case also director, David Prachař and they have created May, a piece in which they both also perform. more

The National Theatre Ballet
A triptych made by the British choreographer Christopher Bruce. His name in the final credits is not, however, the only thing the three pieces have in common: they all deal with the issue of a retro perspective on pop-folk-rock music scene. All three choreographies were made to music composed in the 20th century. The night will open with a dance opus Dance at the Crossroads created to music of the Irish-Scottish band The Waterboys. With the second piece called Moonshine Bob Dylan's music will resound on stage. The triptych will close with an explosion of energy and the music of the Rolling Stones: the choreography called Rooster. more

Eugene Ionesco
One of the seminal plays of the 20th century, blending the Theatre of the Absurd, existential drama, classical farce and burlesque, tells the story of people from a small town, perhaps in southern France, suddenly finding themselves in the clutches of Evil, which assumes the rather ridiculous semblance of a rhinoceros. One by one, all these good people turn into rhinoceroses and accept their fate with a dreadful passivity. Yet one among them defies. He is not able to accept that which all the others have, even though he is timid, weak and of nowise distinct character. He is anything but a hero, yet he resists the mass metamorphosis. more

WHAT HAPPENED AFTER NORA LEFT HER HUSBAND
Elfriede Jelinek
The Nobel Prize winner writes provocatively and her relentless criticism even surpasses that of Ibsen. (Two of the plays Jelinek links up to are contained in the title.) Above all, she conjectures the story of Nora. As the author has herself said, she considers Nora an extremely negative character. Although Nora extricated herself from her marriage, she continues, like a squirrel, hopping around seeking to please men, without understanding any of the principles of the civilisation dictated by males. (Those who exploit more effectively, compete more effectively, is how her algorithm could read.) Jelinek sends Nora to the 1930s, the years of economic crisis with war on the horizon. As Václav Bělohradský would put it, it is an apposite metaphor of the time of the deified growth of Growth. more

Laterna magika
A permanent resident of Laterna magika´s repertory, a piece that has, since its first night in 1977, bred generations of dancers. Despite its age, it hasn´t ceased to lure spectators by its poetic character and subtle humour. It is, among other things, a story about the unchievable character of the perfect, about the eternal desire, and, last but not least, it is a probe into human soul... more
