COCKTAIL 012 - THE BEST OF

The most popular of Laterna magika’s numbers from recent years plus a retro revue. A composed programme includes excerpts from successful pieces that were or still are on Laterna magika’s repertory (the most recently included parts are The Breakneck Ride – the oldest excerpt from Variations created 1963; The Magic Flute, Rendez-vous, Legends of Magic Prague, and other). Besides, the show includes a 30 minutes multimedia piece Code 58.08: a show that goes back to the roots of Laterna magika’s creative technique. more

VISEGRAD GIPSY MANIA

A unique night full of Romani music temperament from the deepest roots to the very present. The concert is part of the project National Theatre – Theatre of Nations. Two stars of gipsy music will play – PARNO GRASZT (hu) and BITUMEN BEAT (cz). Each of them represents a different approach towards tradition: whereas Parno Graszt are often labelled as „the tradition itself“, Bitumen Beat look at the roots from a certain distance and inspire freely with other genres. The Roma are an ethnic minority constantly suffering from open racism. The choreographer Constanza Macras has been researching Roma life since 2010 and has gathered an ensemble of Roma musicians, performers,dancers of her company and amateurs of all ages for Open For Everything – a journey not only into Roma culture, but also into ourselves. more

LEGENDS OF MAGIC PRAGUE

In a new multimedia project the audience is introduced to more and less well-know legends, for which Prague is famous: for example the tale of the most famous inhabitants of the Faust House - Faust and the English alchymist Edward Kelley; the legend of Chanina, the daughter of a Jewish merchant, who refuses bridegrooms offered her and, drawn by her love of a mysterious Lord of the River Vltava, steps into the river and returns to the roofs of Prague only in the shape of a green cat; the stories of secret meetings between the Emperor Rudolf II and the philosopher, mystic and great personality of the Jewish culture in Prague - Rabbi Löwe and his homunculus Golem; and last but not least the legend connected with the construction of the Astronomical Clock of the Old Town. more
