The title of the new dance project by Constanza Macras refers to an attitude. Open for Everything is a piece on the “otherness” of the Roma, a community whose history is based entirely on memories: it is a mosaic of oral literature, myths, customs and traditions passed from one generation to another. Open for Everything deals with the question whether there is still space for such (non)traditional life in our contemporary society. The production was recently premiered in Vienna, then travelling to Berlin and Hamburg, to finally be presented in Prague on June 5th and 6th at the New Stage of the National Theatre.

An important anniversary is coming up for Laterna magika after Easter. On April 14th one of its shows, The Wonderful Circus will be performed for the 6167th time and will celebrate exactly 35 years since its premiere in 1977. Telling a story of the pilgrimage of two clowns, The Wonderful Circus is a legendary show created by such big names as Evald Schorm, Jiří Srnec and Jan Švankmajer. It has toured and gained critical acclaim around the world: today it is still on at the New Stage of the National Theatre. The off programme of its anniversary offers a number of events, among them an exhibition of theatre posters or a photography happening with the performers of the original version of the show at the piazzeta of the National Theatre.

On March 3rd, Laterna magika will present a premiere of a brand new show Legends of Magic Prague. This new piece, the first after years to be created by Laterna magika, now one of the National Theatre ensembles, is bound to attract spectators by its astounding concept as well as by being enrooted in the traditional artistic approach of Laterna magika. The theme of the show is based on two pieces created by Jiří Srnec for the Black Light Theatre: Legends of the Old Mother Prague and Ahasver. The core idea of both these older shows as well as the new one is to guide the audience through the world of more or less known Prague legends and to tell a story of the life cycle through these legends. However, in the new piece this thematic concept is staged in a brand new form: with new choreography, music, costumes, scenic design and video projection.
