No signs of this theatre season coming to an end. At the New Stage it is quite the opposite: we’re heading towards a grand finale both in the main building and its whereabouts.
June at the New Stage has two highlight guests from abroad. The very beginning of the month will see on our stage the world renowned choreographer Constanza Macras (ARG/DE). She is coming back to our theatre after two years to present her brand new piece Open for Everything: a show co-created with Roma musicians, dancers and actors as well as professional dancers from Macras’ company DorkyPark. Together, they will set out on a journey across the landscape of prejudice and clichés established around the idea of the “otherness” of the Roma.
Another outstanding personality of the international theatre scene will then close our June programme, she is Irina Brook (FR). We will present her daring version of Homer’s Ulysses, a piece Brook has co-created with her company. Four performers, an empty space and the magic of theatre. The most famous characters from the Greek mythology in an energetic rhythm of rap music. The show is in French.
June will also see the launching of a big summer project of the New Stage: FIESTA AT THE NEW STAGE, a six- week theatre Hyde Park like event at the piazzeta. From June 23rd to the beginning of August both professionals and amateurs will be there to entertain audiences and random passers-by, living up the city centre and cherishing all diverse forms of theatre. Every afternoon a mobile made-to-measure stage will host one or more artistic events, most of them representing the field of street-art. The whole festival is free of charge.
Towards the end of June, at the occassion of the end of the season, the Fiesta at the New Stage will host british ensemble Beautiful Creatures (UK) with AirQuarium. The AirQuarium is an immersive and sensory theatre experience featuring life size mutated fish puppets, comedy scientists and a beautiful electronic soundscape. Submerge yourself in this odd and funny underwater world, and let the AirQuarium transport you.
Neither Laterna magika is closing down in the summer: their legendary piece Wonderful Circus is on during the summer. Whether you believe it or not, the show recently celebrated its 35th anniversary. The longest-time-on-repertory piece tells the story of two wandering clowns in search of the unattainable vision of beauty. Come to see it in June, July and August.
