January highlights

Long winter nights and inclement weather: those are perfect settings for visiting a theatre. In January, the New Stage offers reruns of a majority of its most successful shows.

One of our pieces without language barrier is Legends of Magic Prague, an epic show created at Laterna magika: walk with us through the crooked streets of the Old Town of Prague and listen to the most popular of Prague legends. Another of Laterna magika’s pieces you can come to see in January is Casanova - a thrilling story about the life of the legendary seducer. Directed by the filmmaker Juraj Jakubisko, the piece is an impressive metaphorical portrayal of love and passion for life. Last but not least, you can also come to see Laterna magika’s legendary show Wonderful Circus: the story about two clowns searching for perfection has been on the repertory since the 1970s.

Moonshine is another of our shows in which music and motion play the main roles. A triptych created by the choreographer Christopher Bruce, performed by the Ballet Ensemble of the National Theatre is made of three extraordinary pieces: the opus Dance at the Crossroads made to music by the Irish-Scottish band The Waterboys; Moonshine made to Bob Dylan’s music; and the closing show, one bursting with energy, Rooster made to The Rolling Stones’ songs.

The same as last January, our off programme once again offers the project Second Chance for Christmas Trees. The space behind the New Stage will host a temporary installation – a sort of artificial wood: bring your own used Christmas tree and make it a part of our project. You can bring your tree to the piazzeta anytime from January 6^th to 8^th, the artists will help you with placing it in a recycled wood dominated by a hunting hide.  

Last but not least, let us point out our February highlight: the premiere of Slapstick Sonata, a show created by the Finnish company Cirko Aereo and Czech Cirk La Putyka. The new circus piece will only be shown once at the New Stage. Don’t hesitate and buy your tickets now!
